Patients with chronic hepatitis C, particularly those with anemia,
experienced significantly impaired mental and physical health and
worsened fatigue symptoms while on antiviral therapy, with improvement
coming at treatment completion in a recent study.
Researchers evaluated health-related quality of life (HRQL) and
fatigue symptoms in 59 patients with HCV/HIV coinfection before, during
and after therapy with pegylated interferon and ribavirin. Physical and
mental health was measured via the Short Form (36) Health Survey;
fatigue was assessed by the Fatigue Severity Scale.
