How to Evaluate a Clinical Trial | Alan Franciscus — 2 Comments

  1. You mentioned that every clinical trial in the United States must be approved and monitored by an Institutional Review Board (IRB) which evaluates the study to make sure that it is ethical and that the clinical trial participant is not harmed by the drug under study. Do most clinical trial participants have to meet certain criteria before they can participate? My mother has been showing signs of Alzheimer’s and was asked to be a part of a clinical trial. It seems that being a part of this trial could be beneficial.

    • HI Derek – yes it could be beneficial but it would be a good idea for family members to be involved and read the clinical trial protocol. It is always important to remember that drugs are in clinical trials to find out if they work and will not harm the participant, but there is always that potential. I hope this helps. Alan
